The All-in-one Superzoom.

No matter where the action happens—right in front of you, across the playing field, or somewhere between—you’ll be able to frame the shot you want.

Always be in the right spot

Covering a vast 14.2x Zoom Range—from 28mm wide shots to 400mm close-ups—this is an ideal Superzoom lens for large-field sports, theme parks, travel, or anywhere the unexpected is expected.

One lens to cover all the action

Super-telephoto details

Finally, get to the heart of the action from the sidelines or bleachers with 400mm of reach (600mm equivalent on APS-C size/DX cameras).

Wide street shots

Zoom out to get the entire scene into your shot or capture action that’s happening right in front of you.

Candid snapshots

Vary the look of your shots by using different Zoom positions: wide to bring in background elements or tight to isolate your subjects.

Macro-style close-ups

Fill your frame and create beautiful bokeh with a 7.8 inch minimum focus distance and 0.35x reproduction ratio at 28mm.

Video Versatility

Great moments don’t wait for a lens change.

With the NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR, you can follow the action wherever it goes.

Fast Accurate Autofocus.

Powered by a high-speed stepping motor (STM), the NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR keeps up with fast-moving subjects like athletes, theme park rides, and wildlife.

Easy to carry

Just 725g and 5.6 inches retracted, the NIKKOR Z 28-400mm f/4-8 VR is lightweight and well-balanced, and it doesn’t draw attention like some long lenses.

Carry it comfortably on your shoulder, in a sling pack, or in a backpack.

Handheld stability

Leave the tripod and shoot handheld on-the-go.

5.0 Stops* of optical Vibration Reduction (VR) keep dimly lit photos sharp and videos steady.

Get an extra boost up to 5.5 stops** when used with a Z series camera that supports Synchro VR.

Dust and drip-resistant

Carefully sealed, especially around moving parts of the lens barrel, for worry-free durability.

Thorough dust and drip-resistance are not guaranteed in all situations or under all conditions.

Customizable control ring

Smooth and clickless

Set it to control aperture, ISO, exposure compensation, or manual focus.

Linear focus available for video recording.

Convenient by design

Zoom Lock Switch

Prevents the lens from accidentally extending in transport; adds peace of mind.

Compact Square Lens Hood

Sophisticated, professional design that reduces ghosting.

Does not obstruct any lens operation, even when inverted.

Short-Throw Zoom Ring

Move through the entire Zoom range with just over ¼ turn of the barrel.

77mm Filters

Internal threading for protective, neutral colour, or polarizing filters.

Customizable Control Ring

Smooth and clickless. Set it to control aperture, ISO, exposure compensation, or manual focus.

Technology

Vibration Reduction

A Nikon in-lens technology that improves image stability by automatically compensating for camera shake.

Lenses that offer VR will feature the abbreviation VR on the lens barrel.

Electromagnetic Diaphragm Mechanism

An Electromagnetic Diaphragm Mechanism in the lens barrel provides highly accurate electronic diaphragm or aperture blade control when using auto exposure during continuous shooting.

ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) Glass

An optical glass developed by Nikon is used with normal optical glass in telephoto lenses to obtain optimum correction of chromatic aberrations.

Aspherical Lens

A lens with a curved, non-spherical surface.

Used to reduce aberrations and enable a more compact lens size.

Aspherical lenses minimize coma and other types of lens aberrations, even when used at the widest aperture.

They are particularly useful in correcting distortion in wide-angle lenses and help contribute to a lighter, more compact design by reducing the number of standard (spherical) elements necessary.

Aspherical lens elements correct these distortions by continuously changing the refractive index from the center of the lens.

Stepping Motor

NIKKOR Z lenses use a Stepping Motor for fast, accurate, smooth, quiet Autofocus with reduced wobbling.

This quiet drive system makes the lenses ideal for use when shooting video.

* Measured in accordance with CIPA standards with VR function set to NORMAL and Zoom at the maximum telephoto position.

Available when attached to a full frame/FX-format interchangeable lens mirrorless camera compatible with Synchro VR.
