It combines groundbreaking 4K sensor design, high-performance in-body Image Stabilisation, and intelligent autofocus in a body that’s smaller than the Canon EOS C200.

The RF mount adds 12-pin communication for high-speed data transfer between the camera and the lens, which enables faster autofocus and the addition of a new Combination IS system.

In this Combination IS system, the electronic IS of the camera and the optical IS of an RF lens work co-operatively to achieve a greater level of image stabilization.

RF lenses share the same large 54mm internal diameter as EF lenses, but at just 20mm, the flange distance from the mount to the camera sensor is less than half the distance required by the EF mount.

Being able to position the rear element closer to the sensor brings an exceptional level of corner-to-corner sharpness with minimal light falloff.

The combination of a large diameter and short flange distance also permits the design of faster, brighter lenses with larger maximum apertures.

Another benefit of the RF mount is that, due to the short flange back, the camera can be made more compact.

The Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount) is the next-generation Cinema EOS camera for professional filmmakers and content creators, and is ideal for handheld solo recording.

The Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount) is the lightest Cinema EOS camera available, and the camera’s small form factor makes it easy to integrate into a range of rigs, including cranes and drones, as well as handheld gimbals when you need additional support.

It’s the smallest and lightest body in the Cinema EOS system, but a true heavyweight when it comes to features and performance.

Despite the reduced size of the body, the Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount) has an advanced level of functionality and operability that makes it a complete solution for single shooters.

The camera features an extensive array of easy-to-use controls, including 13 customisable buttons.

An ergonomic multifunction grip houses three dials and a multi-directional joystick, providing assured handling and fingertip adjustment of controls.

There’s also a fully-articulated screen with a refreshed direct touch user interface that allows settings to be quickly changed and the focus point to be selected while holding the camera.

At the heart of the Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount) is the same Dual Gain Output (DGO) Super 35mm 4K sensor as in the Canon EOS C300 Mark III.

This produces two separate images at different amplification levels to increase details in both the shadows and highlights, while significantly diminishing noise.

The two images are combined to produce exceptionally clean footage with a high dynamic range of more than 16 stops, and both contribute to the outstanding IQ.

Auto ISO makes its Cinema EOS debut in the Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount), enabling the camera to automatically adjust the sensitivity as lighting conditions change.

A new built-in ND filter unit that’s smaller and thinner than that found on either the Canon EOS C500 Mark II or Canon EOS C300 Mark III offers additional exposure control in bright light.

The Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount) also brings a breakthrough in autofocus performance.

It’s the first Cinema EOS camera to use Canon‘s EOS iTR AF X, an advanced new tracking and recognition system driven by ‘deep-learning’ artificial intelligence.

The technology can detect human heads and faces with precision and keep them in focus even when the person turns and moves away from the camera.

When combined with the highly accurate Dual Pixel CMOS AF and touchscreen control, it delivers a rapid and reliable way for single operators to maintain sharp focus.

Dual Pixel CMOS AF is fully supported when shooting at high frame rates.

The Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount) can record 4K up to 120fps at 4:2:2 10-bit for smooth slow-motion playback, complete with simultaneous audio recording in a separate file, and the top speed can be boosted to 180fps in 2K crop mode.

The Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount) has been designed to meet the diverse recording requirements of a wide range of users, so it offers XF-AVC Intra and Long GOP or MP4 (HEVC) recording.

All formats can be recorded internally to an SD card, with the camera’s dual SD card slots enabling a versatile range of recording modes.

You can choose to record proxy files at the same time for example, or simultaneously record in different file formats, resolutions, or codecs.

Back-up and relay recording options are also available.

A full suite of professional interfaces is also built into the body. Despite the Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount)‘s small proportions, it offers two mini XLR terminals, a microphone terminal, a headphone terminal, and full-size HDMI supporting 4K 10-bit output.

A USB Type-C connecter can be used for wired or wireless transfer of video data for IP streaming and FTP transfer via a third-party adaptor.

RF Mount

Large Diameter Mount: This new RF mount is featured in the Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount), and allows filmmakers to also benefit from the amazing optics and high-performance the RF system brings.

Short Back Focus System: Having a shorter flange back distance of approx. 20mm (which is less than half of the distance on DSLR cameras), allows lenses to fit closer to the focal plane of the camera’s sensor. This short back focus not only allows the camera body design to be more compact, but also gives more freedom for the optical system to be utilised for corner-to-corner sharpness.

12-Pin Data Communication System: The RF mount communication system utilises multiple channels dedicated to specific functions; its revolutionary data system enhances lens and camera cooperation and functionality. Smooth aperture control, broader area AF and improved focus precision, plus highly sophisticated optical correction and improved image stabilisation are the result.

Adaptable

Compact, Lightweight and Reliable: The Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount) features a new design, including a multi-function grip with 3 customisable dials and multi-directional joystick.

The camera is built to be a tough and lightweight workhorse, thanks to the carbon fibre polycarbonate body.

The compact design also enables it to be comfortably rigged to drones, gimbals, hand-held or shoulder rigs, as well as FPV helmets and vehicles.

Built-in ND filters: The Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount) features a newly developed ultra-thin ND filter unit which is optimized for the shorter flange back of the RF mount.

This electronically controlled ND filter system, supports 2/4/6 and extended 8/10 stops, making it possible to create an image with shallow depth of field, in bright shooting conditions.

Rugged Cold Shoe Mount: The Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount) incorporates a rugged cold shoe to mount the handle unit, or as an accessory shoe to attach a variety of accessories, such as an external microphone.

Independent chamber ventilation system: The Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount) adopts an equivalent independent airflow system found in our higher-end Cinema EOS cameras.

This independent ventilation structure is designed to separate the airflow from directly hitting the electronic components.

This design also prevents foreign bodies such as water and sand from entering the electrical systems, making the Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount) a versatile tool for shooting on location.

Super 35mm Sensor

A Dual Gain Output Sensor that delivers more: On the DGO sensor, each pixel will read out the image with two different amplification levels, one high and one low, which will then be combined to make a single image.

The higher amplification read-out is optimised to capture clean details in darker areas, while the lower amplification read-out is optimised to capture the details in brighter areas.

Hence, when combined together at pixel-level accuracy, the details and the qualities on both the highlight, as well as the low light areas will be maintained and enhanced which enables the camera to achieve an impressive higher dynamic range of up to 16+ stops.

Unlike Dual ISO, the benefits of DGO work across a wider ISO range, maximizing the dynamic range and image quality regardless of the environment you are shooting in.

The new DGO sensor is also compatible with Dual Pixel AF giving the user greater freedom to achieve the image they desire.

HDR recording support: Enjoy up to 16+ stops of dynamic range when shooting in Canon Log 2, with characteristics close to film, maximizing grading flexibility and shadow detail.

Canon Log 3 also provides exceptional dynamic range while offering a more efficient grading workflow and minimizing shadow noise.

The Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount) also features Hybrid Log-Gamma (HLG) and Perceptual Quantisation (PQ), for internal recording of HDR footage instantly without grading.

Natural and truthful colour science: Canon’s Cinema EOS System is renowned for colour science that produces warm natural skin tones and organic colour.

The Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount) also has a range of colour matrix settings to match other camera types and models.

LUT support: In addition to Canon’s in-built Cinema EOS lookup tables, import custom 3D LUTs for both viewing on the LCD and internal recording, for even more efficient colour pipeline workflows.

Recording Formats

High frame rates up to 120fps in 4K: The Canon EOS C70 Cinema Camera (RF Lens Mount) supports slow-motion capture with 4K 120p recording, with Dual Pixel CMOS AF support, as well as audio recording. For even higher frame rates, 2K 180fps is also available in Super16 mode.

Dual Card slots with Multiple recording format support: Dual UHS-II SD card slots enable simultaneous / relay recording of 4K XF-AVC / MP4 files (4:2:2 10-bit). XF-AVC also supports ALL-I and Long-GOP, providing maximum flexibility for your production requirements.

MP4 recording in either HEVC H.265 or H.264 Long-GOP offers alternative recording formats for further flexibility. lenses.
